Life Coaching is a process that helps improve your personal or professional life, no matter which aspects, by exploring what is going on right now, discovering what your obstacles or challenges might be, and choosing a plan of action to pursue your goals and get where you want to be.
I met my husband in 2001 in the United States when we were both students. After a four-year long distance relationship, we got married and I moved to Brazil, where he is from. Finally, we were going to live together!
I settled in very quickly. I was already fluent in Portuguese when I arrived and working as an English and French teacher helped me adapt easily to my new environment. However, I encountered many challenges that I was not expecting. In time, I got tired of teaching and I started to feel homesick and lonely. I was missing my family and friends, my country and my culture. I was feeling lost and even started feeling like a stranger to myself. This is when I realised how much my move to Brazil had affected me at the deepest level of who I am, my identity.
It is when we moved to Geneva for my husband’s job, that I first got introduced to life coaching upon meeting a life-coach-to-be at a party. I volunteered to be his “coachee” for his training and that is how my journey with life coaching started. During the coaching process, I could see how helpful it was be to be heard and supported in times of stressful moments, to be guided and encouraged to redefine my goals to recreate my life. And this is when I really got inspired to give the same support to other expat women.
